Feral. Genuinely fun but also teetering on the edge of sanity. We focused on creating music that had the wild aggressive quality of certain obscure pre-Beatles-era rock’n’roll tracks, but with hyper-literate lyrics instead of bluesy clichés (not that I don’t love a bluesy cliché). One of my personal favorites of my own records.

I had formed a band with three acquaintances (Ben, Jorgen & Sam) to tour the last record, and we had some real musical chemistry. We got Tim Sandusky (producer of the last record) to play saxophone on some songs and suddenly we had something magical on our hands. We rehearsed and arranged for about a week and then recorded this album quite fast in Tim’s studio. Though it bears mentioning that we had done two songs 6 months earlier with a different bassist, Patrick Burke, and those have the same quality of revved-up madness. Anyway I think it all captures how life felt for me in this era. Low-rent, high-energy.

Agitated and unwell but kind of glowing with vitality nonetheless, plus a spark of furious hope.

"Clever, funny, sharp and tuneful – a great rock'n'roll record." Guardian

"What we do know is that Day of the Dog is a killer record.... The experimental nature, the attempts at genre-bending (well, as much as feasibly possible with garage-rock), some tinges of early psychobilly, and the absolute best representation of Furman’s ferocious gravel-laced vocal presence." The Line of Best Fit

"This Chicago-based singer-songwriter offers a bratty, ragged take on New York Dolls, Spector-era Ramones and E Street Band carnival rock, revealing a gift for crafting freeway-cruisin’ tunes served with an extra helping of roadkill." NME
